 The Boys Meet! - Ben's Story
After his mandatory trip to the veterinarian, we introduced our new dog, Ollie to Ben, another mixed terrier that we had "rescued" from a friend! Jack had adopted Ben from a shelter for his 6 year old daughter, but he never house-trained the poor little dog, so Jack had no clue about what he would do with Ben with winter coming. He casually mentioned that he needed a place for Ben to stay, and "I'll take him" popped right out of my mouth! (It didn't occur to me that Lucky, Penny and Muffin, our other 3 dogs, might not welcome Ben with open paws, but that's another story for another time.) |

time.) Needless to say, Ben became a permanent family member,
and for a whole year he had been an only "child".
We had been planning to get Ben a companion because we have
always had at least two dogs in our family, but after we lost
three of our wonderful long-time pets to old age in the space
of only two years, we were waiting until the time felt right
to adopt another dog. Now it looked like that time had come!
Bill chose the name Ollie in honor of another
homeless street urchin, Oliver Twist, but Ollie was almost named Jerry because, on our way back to the car, when we were still contemplating a name, we stopped at a Ben and Jerry's® ice cream store to get the pup some water. Still, Ollie seemed to fit our new adoptee, and it still does! |

Lucky
& Penny were from the same litter. They were incredible
rivals and at times seemed to hate each other, but many
times we would find Lucky with his head resting on Penny
as he slept! Muffin was a cockapoo and a perennial baby.
She was a sweet little angel loved by everyone!
