Ollie
takes over:
Ollie's health had definitely been neglected by his previous family, but I'm sure that he was never physically abused because he was a happy, confident and trusting dog from the start. Ben, his new "brother", was really sweet so there was never any problem between them, and Ollie immediately made himself right at home. While running and playing in the yard with my 6-foot-tall husband, Bill, the 20-pound little mutt went wild with joy! Bill laughed so hard at his antics that Ollie was able to completely catch him off guard by springing up and off of Bill's stomach, knocking Bill to the ground. Ollie then threw himself across Bill's chest to claim victory, and of course Bill happily conceded! |

Christmas
Confusion!
On his first Christmas with us, Ollie seemed to ignore the 8-foot tall Douglas fir that had just been placed in the house. He was only a little more than a year old, and full of play. He often ran what we called "crazy eights" around the family room every time we came home, just for the fun of dashing over and under the furniture! We knew that he was very smart and always curious, so we usually talked about how Ollie might react to new situations. |

| On this day, after one wild circuit, Ollie sat on the carpet with the tree to his back to scratch his head. He must have tilted back a bit because a branch of the tree touched the top of his head. That's when he turned and looked to see what he had touched. He paused for a moment, with an incredulous look on his face, and then he turned, dumbfounded, to stare at me, as if to say, "Do you see this tree in here?!" Then he looked back at the tree and at me again. It was hilarious! I had never seen a dog do a double-take until that moment. After that incident I understood how really smart Ollie is. |
