Dogs - Tips And Tricks |
Make an easy-to-clean, and nearly indestructible dog bed for small and medium sized dogs!
The
great thing about this bed is how soft and comfy it is, and
how easy it is to keep clean! The pillow cover is made from
a terry cloth towel and it can be washed and dried as often
as you like! What can you do for a large dog? (They
count too!) See more tips below.

Purchase
the following:
1.
One
concrete mixing pan - 20" x 26" x 6" deep
- Cost - usually $5. (this will be the bed)
2. One standard-sized bed pillow - also usually 20"
x 26"- Polyfill - $4.-$6.
3. One large bath towel - the one I'm using is 28"
x 50", but 27" x 42" is large enough.
4. Hook and loop tape (brand name for this is Velcro®). 18" to 24" - exact size is not important - (the entire opening across the end doesn't have to be closed).
5. Optional: One standard-sized vinyl pillow protector - this keeps the pillow inside of the terry cloth cover clean. Note: If your dog likes to "dig" in his bed, he'll shred any protectors. After our dog destroyed several purchased ones, I learned to use a few large plastic bags instead, which I tape shut with duct tape. Then the outside cover is placed over this plastic protection. Polyfill pillows usually are washable, but it is far easier to keep them clean because they take a long time to dry.

Beds
for big dogs? They're your babies, and they need lovin' too!
A
bed can easily be made as described above using a king-sized
pillow and two towels , but the container is going
to be a little hard to find. Another cuddlesome idea is to
use an old comforter or thick blanket that is easy to launder.
Fold it in half or in thirds, and let your dog curl up on
that. He won't stay off of the sofa all of the time, but it's
a nice place for him to chew on toys or treats. Next:Sewing Instructions.
