Ollie, our logo inspiration, was one of our earliest rescues. We spotted him from a pavilion balcony overlooking Baltimore's beautiful Inner Harbor. He was a scruffy little mutt sitting at the edge of a crowd of people as they enjoyed a group of energetic acrobatic street performers. He looked quite at home as he opened his mouth in a gigantic yawn that ended with a big goofy grin. Of course, we just had to go and meet him! Assuming he was with someone, we asked everyone nearby if he was their pup. Surprisingly, no one claimed him or knew where he belonged. Some of the regular visitors from the area said that they had seen him hanging around before and that he was a stray. The little guy seemed curious and friendly and in that moment we knew he would be going home with us.
My husband had the idea to call him Oliver, after Charles Dickens street urchin, but Ollie seemed to suit him a little better. After getting some twine from a merchant in one of the stores, I tied it to his collar so that we could all make the trek back to our car, but the little guy was so skinny and weak from living on the street that he meekly allowed Bill to carry him. It was love at first sight!
